What To Do With Those Old Hair Dryers

Do you have a hair straightener that you love? Is it the coolest thing with a great design? Do you have a matching hair dryer? More specifically, did you forgo your old hair dryer for the new one that matches? It may have been important to you to have a complete set. Where does that leave your old hair dryer?

Often we accumulate things – particularly hair styling products and gadgets like hair dryers – before they’ve really reached their life’s end. That may be because a new technology entered the market and we want to try the newest and the best. It may be because we like the concept of matching straighteners and dryers, so we abandon our old in favor of the new. Whatever the reason, you can still use your old hair dryers – here’s how.

Does your home have drafts through the windows? Consider buying some window kits to keep the cold air out. Window kits consist mainly of large sheets of clear plastic (like cling wrap) that are attached around your window opening with tape. The heat from a dryer smooths out all the wrinkles and tightens up the material, removing the extra play.

Hair dryer are also useful for dusting house plants. When placed on a cool setting, you can dust the broad leaves of house plants to remove the film that makes them dull. Some people use compressed air for this, but I find that it’s hard to breathe after using cans of air. I also use them to dust around my desk in my office. It’s especially effective in hard-to-reach areas like around computer cables and monitors.
